We are devastated by this tragic event and our deep sympathies go out those who were closest to him; his family, his friends, his fellow deputies and his community.

**Originally Posted Friday, 10 August 2018 Sadly today we mourn the loss of CHP Officer Kirk Griess (pictured) who was tragically killed in the line of duty this morning in a vehicle collision in Fairfield.Officer Griess was killed while conducting a vehicle stop on I-80. Griess was on the shoulder of westbound lanes of the interstate around 9 a.m. near Manuel Campos Parkway.For an unknown reason, a white Chevy pickup truck veered to the right and hit Officer Griess.
