Sadly today we mourn the loss of CHP Officer Kirk Griess (pictured) who was tragically killed in the line of duty this morning in a vehicle collision in Fairfield.

Officer Griess was killed while conducting a vehicle stop on I-80. Griess was on the shoulder of westbound lanes of the interstate around 9 a.m. near Manuel Campos Parkway.

For an unknown reason, a white Chevy pickup truck veered to the right and hit Officer Griess. Everyone involved in the crash was taken to local hospitals. Griess was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Griess, his family, and his brothers and sisters of the CHP.
